These vintage glass dishes were originally made to serve banana splits, a popular ice-cream dessert in first half of the 1900s. They were made in Sydney, Australia by the Crown Crystal Glass Company. They are shown in Crown Crystal's 1932 glassware catalogue as 'No. 194 - Banana Split'. These dishes were produced for a long period of time. Examples are shown in the Crown Corning Glassware Collection in the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) in Sydney, which dates their production from around 1920 to 1960.
Crown Crystal was formed in Sydney in 1926 with the merging of Crown Glass Works and Crystal Glass Limited into one larger company. At the time the Crown Crystal Glass Company was the only company in Australia manufacturing pressed glassware and would remain so until the 1970s.
